Stanfield Propane has been family-owned and operated since 1965, proudly serving Cleveland, TX, and surrounding communities for nearly six decades. What began as a small, local butane and propane supplier has grown into a trusted, licensed energy provider known for dependable service, honest work, and long-standing relationships with the families and businesses we serve. Stanfield Butane was started as a business in 1965 by the late E. V. Stanfield & his wife Dorthy Stanfield. They managed the business from home, keeping their doors open to everyone. It was common knowledge to most customers that purchased gas that if you showed up at lunch time to pay your bill you couldn’t pay your bill until you sat down and had lunch first. The Stanfield family always put on a feast at lunch time and nobody left hungry.
The Stanfield family always had a special relationship with their customers and the community. This kind of southern hospitality continued even after a new office was built and business was moved outside of the Stanfield home. In 1995 E.V Stanfield passed away and the name was changed from Stanfield Butane to Stanfield Propane. This was the start of the second generation of ownership. Their daughter Helen Stanfield Ward and her husband John Louis Ward were the new owners. It was important to Helen that Stanfield Propane offer the same level of service and community her parents had offered for years. Her husband John Louis also agreed that customers and the future success of Stanfield Propane were important. John Louis grew up on the family Dairy Farm in a small rural area just outside of Cleveland. He was taught from an early age to get up before the chickens to milk cows and never to go to bed until the work day was done.
He brought this same level of commitment to the propane business. Stanfield Propane is often referred to by customers as a company that goes above and beyond for their customers. The Wards have prepared for the future of the business by getting their children involved in the company. All of their children have contributed throughout the years to make it what it is today. Their daughter Kasey Ward Mabe, husband Danny Mabe, son Chance Ward, and daughter in law Patricia Ward all work alongside their parents today at Stanfield Propane. Chance & Patricia have also opened a Feed store called Last Chance Feed & More at the same location. Both businesses work together to serve customers and support the community.
